Written for you, the engineer, on how to use me.
What is this?
⚡️ I offer advice by hosting career chats for software engineers.
Whether you’re new to the industry, several years in experience, or anything in between, I’m here to help you navigate your career path. I offer advice online (video or audio) to boost your success with what you plan to do next. 🚀

Who I am
👋🏽 Hello! I'm Ian Logan, an investor, advisor, and former Airbnb engineering leader. I’m also a father of three.
- X · LinkedIn · AngelList · Crunchbase · Signal
Previously, I was the 1st payments engineer and employee ~20 at Airbnb. For 6+ years, I was one of the first engineering leaders directing over 110 engineers as Airbnb grew 100X on every metric. 📈
I’ve interviewed, hired, and led hundreds of engineers. I’ve coached and grown people across all career levels. 🌱
I have 15+ years of industry experience: 💻
- 4 years as an engineering executive
- 5 years as as engineering manager
- 6 years as an engineer
- 2 years as an engineering intern
I go by my middle name, Ian. My parents named me Albert, my first name, which I don't go by outside of using it for my unique domain name. 😊
How do I help?
I open up time each month to: 🤝
- Give you inspiration to take your next big career step. I believe in placing bets on yourself.
- Share feedback on your resume and portfolio.
- Help you focus on solving business problems effectively with software.
- Offer tactical advice on landing and performing at interviews.
- Provide frameworks for comparing opportunities. Support with thinking about salary vs equity.
- I currently live in 🇨🇦, previously lived 10 years in 🇺🇸, and am a first generation Filipino-Canadian-American 🇵🇭.
Why do I help?
I like helping people just because. Over many years, I’ve helped people by influencing their trajectory and career decisions. I have a passion for matching great people with great opportunities.
Trust me, I’ve been there: from trying to prove oneself through unpaid internships to struggling to get to the next level. I want to share my operating experience and help you in any way that I can. It feels rewarding to pay it forward by helping others.
People that I’ve helped
There are many examples of incredible people that I’ve had the opportunity to take a small part of in their journey. Here’s a shortlist:
- Coaching a chef in the kitchen at Airbnb to become a full time software engineer.
- Mentoring an experienced construction worker to pivot their career to engineering.
- Facilitating the move of an IT professional to a software engineering role.
- Leveling up a finance professional to a financial engineer. She shared her journey here:
I welcome people from all backgrounds to reach out. I focus on helping individuals who want to become an engineer and/or who already have experience.
